Jerry endorsed by hometown Pleasanton Weekly!

This morning, the Pleasanton Weekly joined the Morgan Hill Times in endorsing Jerry's reelection campaign.

The Pleasanton Weekly listed several reasons for their endorsement, including Jerry's dedication to coming home every weekend to meet with his constituents and his expertise in renewable energy. They also note Jerry's ability to bring home results for our veterans.

McNerney also gets high marks for his efforts to keep the Livermore Veterans Hospital open, probably not as a major clinic which has been moved to Palo Alto, but certainly as an administrative facility with a plan to turn it into a special-use center for nurturing in its vineyard-surrounded site soldiers who have suffered brain injuries and post traumatic stress and need its peaceful environment to recover. Just two years ago, the VA center was scheduled to close; McNerney brought the House Veterans Committee here which agreed with McNerney that the Livermore center is too valuable a resource for veterans to shut down.

You can read the entire endorsement from the Pleasanton Weekly here.

You did it... again!

We just got back from an exciting California Democratic Party convention in San Diego in which Congressman Jerry McNerney was greeted with great fanfare wherever he went.

From his speech at the opening reception with Chairman Art Torres and speeches before the Environmental Caucus, California Young Democrats, Labor Caucus, Veterans Caucus, and Latino Caucus as well as his appearance at the "Blue House at the Brew House" blograiser with Charlie Brown, Jerry was everywhere.

Speaking of Charlie Brown, we just wanted to let everyone know that you did it... again! A few days ago, Jerry asked thousands of you to vote for Charlie in the DFA "Grassroots  All-Star" competition. And, as Charlie's web site just announced:

Charliebrown

You voted, blogged, called and e-mailed your friends, and most importantly, exhibited the strength of unity and purpose needed to get our country back on the right track.

Charlie Brown is Democracy for America’s 2007 Grassroots All-Star.

In San Diego over the weekend, Charlie Brown personally expressed his thanks to  Congressman McNerney for his support and all of you for voting and spreading the word across the country.

As you many of you know, Congressman McNerney won the 2006 DFA Grassroots All-Star competition -- a critically timed victory that helped our campaign raise the crucial funds necessary to hire campaign staff and get grassroots volunteers canvassing and phoning voters across the district to defeat Richard Pombo.

Very few pundits thought it was possible for McNerney to win in a district with a seven-point Republican voter registration differential. But, fueled by the grassroots and netroots, McNerney's campaign showed that character matters and people-powered politics can make a difference.

As McNerney did, Charlie Brown is running against a controversial incumbent Congressman for the second time, after losing by only 3 percentage points in 2006. Rep. John Doolittle is even more vulnerable now, as Jim Dean explains:

However, not all is going well for Republican (John) Doolittle. Since the last election, the FBI raided his personal residence and has stepped up the investigation into his dealings with convicted GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Within a week of the raid, Doolittle stepped down from his position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

With voters increasingly disenchanted with the GOP's continued corruption in Congress, Charlie Brown is primed to replicate the grassroots success that propelled Jerry McNerney to victory in 2006.

From Grassroots All-Star to Congress: Help me "pay it forward" today

In 2004, I ran for Congress and lost. In 2006, I ran again and won -- defeating Richard Pombo, a seven-term Republican incumbent.

When the pundits and power-brokers were telling us we could not defeat Pombo, thousands of Democracy for America supporters pushed back, voting to give me DFA's 2006 "Grassroots All-Star" endorsement, a crucial turning point that provided our campaign with a major financial boost.

Today, seven excellent grassroots candidates are competing to win DFA's first congressional endorsement of 2007. You can help me grow the Democratic majority in Congress in 2008 by voting for your next DFA Grassroots All-Star right now:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/allstars

DFA's early endorsement helped me win a seat in Congress, showing that bottom-up, people-powered grassroots organizing works. Your Grassroots All-Star vote changed the race, helping us attract significant early support from the netroots and crucial media attention.

Now, you can make a difference again. Democracy for America has put together a list of candidates that came extremely close last year, ran an excellent grassroots campaign, and have already thrown their hat back in the ring. These candidates need your help to finish what they started in 2006. It's up to you to decide who DFA will support next.

Please vote today for DFA's 2007 Grassroots All-Star:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/allstars

Don't stop there. We won the Grassroots All-Star competition in 2006 because our supporters spread the word about this important competition to their friends, family and neighbors. So, after you vote today, forward this message to your friends and ask them to support your candidate.

Getting out the vote is how you took back Congress in 2006 and it's how we'll grow our Democratic majority in 2008. You can get the ball rolling now by voting for your DFA Grassroots All-Star candidate today and telling your friends to do the same.

Thank you for everything you do.
