One Day Left

As you read this, we're just 36 days from the election. On November 4th, we'll make history.

But, we face another important milestone first: The final FEC deadline is tomorrow at midnight. It is our last chance to show our opponent he can't buy his way into Congress.

Click here to generously give whatever you can afford and send a message to our opponent and his big money, special interest supporters.

Help us shatter our 100K Challenge goal! The National Republicans started with their Karl Rovian tactics the very day Jerry took office, littering the streets of our district with smears and lies. They won't stop until we show them once and for all they cannot buy this seat with their shady Big Oil and special interest money.

Rove-inspired and GOP-funded "independent" organizations like Freedom's Watch are poised to spend upwards of $100 million this election cycle.

Our opponent has a reputation for using the divide-and-conquer, win-at-any-cost Rove playbook. And we can bet he'll use it again this time. After all, this race is personal for him - his "good friend" Richard Pombo was beaten in 2006 by Jerry and his grassroots supporters...supporters just like you.

We need to make sure Rove's hand-picked choice for this office doesn't succeed.

Please click here to donate $5, $20, or $45 towards our $100K Challenge - which ends tomorrow at midnight.

We need your help spreading Jerry's positive message of serving our veterans and ensuring American energy independence to every person in the district - all 800,000 of them.

The last major filing deadline of this campaign - the deadline that sets the tone and keeps us on air through the election - is tomorrow at midnight.

Please, stand with Jerry and give him a huge boost of momentum as we start the last 5 weeks of this campaign season.

Thank you for all you have done, and all you will do.

All the best,

Robbyn

Robbyn Umland
Finance Director
McNerney for Congress

PS - Shattering our 100K Challenge sends a very strong message to our opponent and his Washington Republican buddies that this seat will not be bought. Help us send that message by donating to the 100K Challenge today - before the deadline of midnight tomorrow!

Northern California elected officials and community leaders come together for Jerry

Today, I released a large list of elected officials and community leaders from across the 11th District and Northern California who have come together to endorse my re-election campaign.

Here are what some of those leaders and officials had to say:

“Jerry has made caring for our veterans his top priority, and veterans throughout the district and the country are better off because of his service.  His work to expand the Veterans’ Administration facility in French Camp and his willingness to work across the aisle shows true leadership and dedication to the veterans of San Joaquin County and beyond.” - Victor Mow, San Joaquin County Supervisor

“Jerry is committed to serving all of his constituents with integrity and respect, and meets with residents every weekend to hear their concerns and answer their questions.   He’s worked hard to address the issues of importance to Morgan Hill, including getting the stalled Llagas Creek Flood Protection Project moving again that will provide protection to homes, business and agricultural land.  When he says he’ll do something, he follows through.” - Steve Tate, Morgan Hill Mayor

“I know I can count on Congressman McNerney to listen to what we need so we can all better serve our citizens.  Situated right at the intersection of I-580 and I-680, two major Bay Area freeways, transportation is a big challenge here in Dublin.  Jerry jumped right in to help solve the problems and successfully found federal support for a major Bus Rapid Transit project that will take cars off our clogged roads.” - Janet Lockhart, Dublin Mayor

“Jerry knows what our communities need to thrive, and he works to make sure we have the resources we need. His ability to push through the partisan nature of Washington to bring results back home is commendable. Jerry secured our new emergency communications systems so our communities across the region stay in contact during a disaster. From writing key legislation to help our veterans, to listening to his constituents about gas prices, to serving them honorably in Washington, Jerry is our guy.” - Newell Arnerich, Danville Vice-Mayor

"I'm impressed with Jerry's commitment to spend as much time in the district as possible.  He's here in San Joaquin County all the time and understands not only some of the biggest challenges facing our region but also how to address them.  He's introduced legislation to combat gang crime, crack down on meth use and delivered on funding for local police departments." - Lucian Neely, Former Stockton Police Chief.

I’m humbled to have each of them by my side as we continue our work together to bring real results home.

You can check out the full list of officials here.

Jerry blogs on Huffington Post

With his 20-plus years of renewable energy experience, Jerry posted a statement about our nation's clean energy future in the "Spotlight on the House" section of Huffington Post yesterday.

Check it out here.

I can say definitively that we haven't yet begun to realize the benefits that new energy technology development can offer to this country.

Doing so will mean good jobs in the United States. It will also mean an increasingly diversified economy developing energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies, producing products and ideas for the rest of the world.

Estimates are that launching down this path will mean the creation of hundreds of thousands of new, stable, clean energy jobs in our country -- at all levels of the economic ladder.

I've frequently heard Jerry talk about the enormous job growth potential that renewable energy presents.  He explains it here:

In my former field, wind energy, 9,000 new jobs have been created in the past 17 months alone. Think about it: that's engineers who decide where to locate new turbines, technicians who erect them, mechanics who maintain them, steelworkers who manufacture them and drivers who transport them from place to place.

And that's just for wind energy. Don't forget about solar, geothermal, tidal, biomass -- and a whole host of other types of new, clean energy that may not have even been discovered yet.

Feel free to check out the whole post and send it along to your friends.

SNEAK PEEK: Our second ad is here!

Dad_still_shot Tomorrow morning we launch our second ad, entitled “Dad.” It talks about all the great things that Jerry has done for veterans, as told by his son Michael.

Captain Michael McNerney joined the Air Force in response to 9/11, and is the inspiration behind Jerry’s run for Congress.  Michael served his country fighting overseas, and now his dad is doing the same in Washington.

Check out a sneak peek of the ad here, and post a comment at the bottom of this blog post to let us know your thoughts. Please help us keep it on the air by contributing to our 100K Challenge, which ends on September 30 (just 8 days from now!)

Morgan Hill Times endorses Jerry!

Today, the Morgan Hill Times endorsed Jerry's re-election!

The Times' ringing endorsement notes that "[Jerry] went to Washington to do what he said he was going to...", focusing on reaching across party lines to create sound energy policy.

Since being elected to the 11th California Congressional District in the fall of 2006, Jerry McNerney has demonstrated an ability to work with fellow Congress people, even Republicans, to create a sound energy policy to help our country increase oil production and remain environmentally sound. The former wind energy engineer hasn't disappointed voters. He went to Washington to do what he said he was going to do: help solve the nation's energy problems. He's helped Congress pass several bills that are doing just that.

The endorsement also points out what Jerry has done for Morgan Hill, such as getting the stalled Llagas Creek Flood Protection Project moving again, addressing perchlorate in the city's drinking water, and spending time holding Congress at Your Corner events and telephone town halls.

Check out the endorsement for yourself.

Featured Volunteer: Yolanda Weaver

Yolanda_and_team_2Yolanda Weaver is one of our long-time volunteers.  She got involved with Jerry’s campaign at the very beginning by working to get his name on the ballot.  Yolanda helps out regularly in our Dublin office and she’s integral to making sure everything runs smoothly.  She works on mailings and helps us get everything set for our many events.  She even let us borrow her truck to use in the St. Patrick’s Day parade!

Yolanda says one of the reasons she volunteers is because she loves meeting new people—and on a campaign as with as much grassroots support as Jerry’s, she certainly has lots of opportunities to do just that!

Volunteering is nothing new for Yolanda—she’s been volunteering in politics since 1988 and has worked in every presidential and midterm race ever since.  She’s all ours now, and we are certainly lucky she’s working so hard for Jerry!

Letter to the editor: "McNerney deserves re-election"

From time to time, we like to post great letters to the editor on the blog.  Check out this one from Maria Corona of Stockton which ran in the Modesto Bee on Tuesday.

Everyone should vote for Congressman Jerry McNerney in November.

He is working hard to lower the gas prices. He is fighting to make oil companies drill immediately wherever they can, including in Alaska's National Petroleum Reserve.

Gas prices are out of control. People are having trouble just getting to and from school and work.

President Bush hasn't even lifted a finger. McNerney, on the other hand, has voted for several bills to try and lower gas prices, including forcing the oil companies to drill immediately.

He's also a renewable energy scientist. Who is better equipped to lead us to true energy independence than someone who spent his career before entering Congress working to make renewable energy more accessible to everyone?

McNerney is also the father of a veteran and works to make life for our veterans better by providing better access to health care, benefits and education.

He's tackled the jobs and housing crunches, and is always available to meet with people and hear their concerns.

Another GREAT Day of Action!

91308_doa_crowd_3

This past Saturday, we had yet another incredibly successful Day of Action in the western part of the 11th District.  Volunteers met up throughout the Tri-Valley, in Brentwood and Morgan Hill.  (Don’t worry San Joaquin County, your Day of Action is September 20find out more information here)

Hundreds turned out to take to their neighborhoods to talk face-to-face about all the great things Jerry has done for the District.

Jerry fired up the packed crowd at our Dublin office, igniting the same spark that carried him to victory in 2006.

In addition to our familiar friends, there were a bunch of new volunteers walking for the first time, lots of whom turned out in response to the negative attack ads being run against Jerry on TV and radio – the same type of smears that appeared the very day Jerry was sworn into office.

In Brentwood, the day started early at the Brentwood Farmers' Market as volunteers registered people to vote and signed up groups of supporters to volunteer.

Down in Morgan Hill, we threw open the doors to our new campaign office and welcomed in excited supporters ready to talk to voters about how Jerry continues to work for them, not special interests.

It was an energizing day and one thing’s for sure: we’re all fired up to work hard for the next seven weeks to keep Jerry in office!

Check out Jerry’s first TV ad

Just a short while ago, Jerry’s first TV ad went live on the air!

You can check it out here.

It focuses on Jerry's commitment to serving his constituents by addressing the sorts of pocketbook issues that affect people all across our region - especially reducing the growing cost of energy by finally becoming energy independent and expanding clean, renewable sources like wind, solar, biofuels and geothermal.

Let us know what you think.  Leave a comment here.

And if you like it, consider making a contribution to help us keep it on the air.   After all, TV advertising isn’t cheap, but it sure can be effective.
