You did it... again!

We just got back from an exciting California Democratic Party convention in San Diego in which Congressman Jerry McNerney was greeted with great fanfare wherever he went.

From his speech at the opening reception with Chairman Art Torres and speeches before the Environmental Caucus, California Young Democrats, Labor Caucus, Veterans Caucus, and Latino Caucus as well as his appearance at the "Blue House at the Brew House" blograiser with Charlie Brown, Jerry was everywhere.

Speaking of Charlie Brown, we just wanted to let everyone know that you did it... again! A few days ago, Jerry asked thousands of you to vote for Charlie in the DFA "Grassroots  All-Star" competition. And, as Charlie's web site just announced:

Charliebrown

You voted, blogged, called and e-mailed your friends, and most importantly, exhibited the strength of unity and purpose needed to get our country back on the right track.

Charlie Brown is Democracy for America’s 2007 Grassroots All-Star.

In San Diego over the weekend, Charlie Brown personally expressed his thanks to  Congressman McNerney for his support and all of you for voting and spreading the word across the country.

As you many of you know, Congressman McNerney won the 2006 DFA Grassroots All-Star competition -- a critically timed victory that helped our campaign raise the crucial funds necessary to hire campaign staff and get grassroots volunteers canvassing and phoning voters across the district to defeat Richard Pombo.

Very few pundits thought it was possible for McNerney to win in a district with a seven-point Republican voter registration differential. But, fueled by the grassroots and netroots, McNerney's campaign showed that character matters and people-powered politics can make a difference.

As McNerney did, Charlie Brown is running against a controversial incumbent Congressman for the second time, after losing by only 3 percentage points in 2006. Rep. John Doolittle is even more vulnerable now, as Jim Dean explains:

However, not all is going well for Republican (John) Doolittle. Since the last election, the FBI raided his personal residence and has stepped up the investigation into his dealings with convicted GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Within a week of the raid, Doolittle stepped down from his position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

With voters increasingly disenchanted with the GOP's continued corruption in Congress, Charlie Brown is primed to replicate the grassroots success that propelled Jerry McNerney to victory in 2006.
