Federal law requires that only personal funds or funds from federally registered Political Action Committees can be accepted. Corporate checks, funds from government contractors and foreign nationals, and contributions made in the name of another cannot be accepted. The maximum contribution allowed per election is $2,100 for individual, and $5,000 per election for multi-candidate PACs.

Federal law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer for each individual whose contribution aggregate in excess of $200 in a calendar year.
